I kept seeing this show recommended for people who liked Kurosagi. So I gave it a shot.

Briefly, I loved it.

Kanzaki Nao (Toda Erika) is an extremely honest and extremely gullible girl. She gets tricked into a game in which both players are given 100 million yen (around $1 million) with the goal of whoever can trick the other out of their money can keep it. The person who is tricked has to pay back the $1 million (by whatever means). Kanzaki loses the money immediately of course but fortunately, a genius swindler, Akiyama Shin'ichi (Matsuda Shota) is getting out of jail after taking down the company that swindled his family (okay, it starts out very similar to Kurosagi). He agrees to help for part of the prize money.

And that's the first part of the first episode. Very soon after, this show takes a sharp turn into the surreal and is quite different from Kurosagi, but I can't think of any way to describe it without spoiling it.

I liked Toda Erika in Nobuta wo Produce a lot and she's even better here even though I wondered how this character had survived this long without a keeper.

Matsuda Shota, though, was a revelation. People should be flinging work at this guy. He could have played Akiyama with understated detachment and left it at that but the underlying menace he adds is just wonderful.

So. Liar Game. Great great stuff.

Next, maybe the first season of Trick or Galileo (more puzzle dramas). Or Jotei (Matsuda's summer season drama). I've been asked when I'll run out of stuff to watch. Not as long as every drama I like adds three more to the list.
